When Did You First Discover Your Passion for Directing? (Age, Era)

I began writing poems and short stories when I was about 4 or 5 years old and told my mother I wanted to be a writer when I grew up. So, storytelling has always been a part of my DNA. But it wasn’t until much later in my professional career as a newspaper reporter that I discovered directing. When I thought back on all of the notes and ideas I scribbled on napkins, paper bags on loose leaf paper, I could hear myself saying, “One day, I’m going to put this in a movie” or “One day, I’m going to put this on television”. I knew that I wanted to tell my own stories and the stories of others.

What Notable Directors/Producers Did You Look to As a Barometer or Standard? If Any.

Wow! My list of writers, directors and producers whose work I admire is quite extensive but I grew up loving legal and crime dramas so Steven Bochco, producer of shows like L.A. Law, Hill Street Blues, and Columbo, would be the first producer that comes to mind. Later, I began to study the works of directors Spike Lee, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorcese and Ridley Scott. And now, that list includes writer/director Aaron Sorkin, Ava Duvernay and Barry Jenkins.

What Advice Can You Offer to Creatives who desire to Be (Produce or Direct)? in the Film/TV Industry, but Struggle with the Decision of Leaving Their Traditional 9 to 5?

There are three nuggets of advice I would give creatives who want to write, direct and/or produce for film or television. 1. Know what it is you want to do. 2. Study what you want to do. 3. Do what you want to do. There are not many overnight success stories, so it’s probably going to take a lot of work to get to the point you desire. But if you determine to make is happen, quitting is the only thing that can stop you. Commit to the process, overcome the hurdles that will come, and continue to work toward your goals. You probably will need to start the process while you have a 9-5 until your passion becomes your 9-5 and beyond.

Do You Anticipate Directing any TV Series to Add to Your Catalog of Films and Movies?

I am excited about the opportunities on the horizon for myself and my company, Expected End Entertainment, to write, produce and direct my projects and the projects of other creatives. I have three films currently on the 2019 film festival circuit. We are also in post production on my second feature film, Same Spot, and have two other features scheduled for production and two television series we are pitching to networks and streaming services. The future is bright and I am excited to be creating it.

Nina J is an American Actress, native of San Jose, California, with a Passion for the Stage. Currently residing in Atlanta, GA, Nina J is rumored to have the “Green Light” to becoming a household name in TV/Film & Theater.

Nina J is extremely devoted. She was convinced that her acting abilities would yield her many fetes but her commitment to being a Mom took precedence. Leaving her daughters for someone else to raise was simply out of the question. Nina refused to pursue her Love for acting until her daughters’ begin college. She did not want to face the inevitable challenges of juggling her trusted assignment as a mother with acting. After being instrumental to her daughters’ success, Nina would explore her divine Purpose and Lane in the Acting/Film Industry.

Nina J’s natural Theatrical Range is drawn from her many life experiences. Her life changed forever with the reassurance that she is not on this journey of life alone. Nina J attributes her inspiration from her Mother. Her mother’s tenacity to Challenge Any NO was/is MIGHTY! Nina also seizes her opportunity to connect with people, books, paintings, sports and most important, The Creator.

In addition to being a Leading Thespian, Nina is a reputable Professional Certified Life Coach, Human Resources Business Partner and a Published Author. Nina J stands out! She can’t be labeled as 1 person having only 1 gift. After identifying how to balance and employ her gift, Nina would intentionally serve her colleagues (who sought their purpose) with truth, as well; she would further her training to develop deliverance on Stage and in TV/Film.

Nina J became a student of the Arts. She trained under notable Acting Coaches; Robert Conner, Dwayne Boyd, Donald Grey, Tommy Ford, Tasha Smith and Jemal McNeil. Studying various techniques from acting classes and workshops has allowed her to be cast in roles portraying young and older characters. In fact, she received accolades for her portrayal as a Teenage girl, raped by her mother’s friend.

1487667_3768573548432_1998101397_o

Not only has Nina J invested in her acting career through Theater, Acting coaches, and workshops, she took a nontraditional route by shadowing and collecting information as she served roles as a background actor on Tyler Perry’s Have and Have Nots and CW’s The Originals. Her extension of training is constant as she blends each chronicle in her formula of teachable moments. Nina J appeared in Atlanta Law and had her break out role in the Independent Film, Muse.

Nina J understood timing and was keen to ‘creating the person you want to become through the choices you make.’  She coins the concept of “Doing It My Way”, solid in her stance of never compromising!

Through out her voyage, she learned and appreciated true authenticity, rather than living life by chance. And conversing daily with the Higher Power, she seeks to remain in alignment with his Direction.

Nina J keeps in Rotation a Few Favorite Quotes as Reminders:

1545744_3915655105379_774673061_n

“Don’t let someone who gave up on their dreams talk you out of yours, Never downplay someone else’s accomplishments by justifying that behavior with your opinion, and Outcomes are not promised- Don’t make a choice based on the outcome in order to get what you want to receive”. Nina J epitomizes Peace, Passion, and Purpose as she embodies her roles and executes her next Levels. Her Aspirations as an Actress are to Continue bringing Life to Stories and Stories to Life!
